THE TIMBER VEIL

Detached, Duchess Road

Tucked between a row of traditional roofs, this modern residence redefines elegance with quiet confidence. Designed for a multi-generational family, the home balances privacy and connection—architecturally and emotionally.

The design emerges from a desire for softness in form and strength in material. A veil of timber—seen in the rhythmic vertical slats, warm soffit lines, and understated screen walls—filters light and sightlines with poetic restraint. These timber gestures do not just decorate; they mediate between public and private, indoor and out.

The entrance sequence is carved, not imposed—lifting gently with a series of steps that lead to a recessed doorway clad in vertical timber grain. Here, compression meets release. The facade is intentionally grounded, with muted grey textures anchoring the building, while horizontal bands and planters lighten the upper massing.

Beyond aesthetics, every detail speaks to human experience—moments of stillness, warmth, and clarity. It is a home designed not to shout, but to linger in memory.
